Open Gardens

Welcome to the Gillitts Lions first Open Gardens !

Saturday 4th March and Sunday 5th March

8.30 to 16.00

A couple of gardens are also open on Friday 3rd from 15.00 to 17.00

This is a festival of gardens and so, there are 8 gardens for you to see. Two of the gardens have been shown in the last few years, so for anyone who may feel ‘been there, done that’, you still get to see 6 gardens. I would suggest you see them all. It is quite a difficult time of the year for the garden and some were punished by the harsh hail storms late last year, but a good garden is a good garden, through all seasons. So take a wander through and enjoy them !

Some of the gardens have music, a talk, an exhibition or refreshments. A couple have activities to keep little ones occupied and/or learning interesting new things. We would like you to spread the garden visits over the 2 and a bit days so that you can fully enjoy them as well as the talks without it feeling rushed. You will pay just once for visiting the gardens over the 2 plus Open Garden days. Your Weekend Pass is R80 from WebTicket or R90 at any of the gardens over the weekend. Please try to bring the exact amount if paying at the gardens.

Enter our R5 Raffle at the first that you visit for impressive prizes including a weekend away and equipment from STIHL.

Lion Talk is a series of talks to be of special interest to gardeners and lovers of nature. They are over a few weeks but there is one each lunch time during the Open Gardens. So, relax and enjoy the talk. You will be able to order a light lunch and a drink.

The Gillitts Lions Club House  will be open from 11.00 to 1600 to see the beautiful Botanicals Art Exhibition, to purchase reasonable ice cold drinks or for a comfort break. This is next to the Gillitts Metro Police Station, Old Main Road, Gillitts.

Reasonable, tasty boerewors rolls, sandwiches and drinks will be available to purchase at the Club House between 12.00 and 14.00 on both days.

Sumptuous cakes and teas will be available from 11.00 at the Tea Garden, The Rob Roy Lifestyle Village.

Donations for the tea spread would be very welcome !

The gardens are varied and we hope that you will find them interesting.

My suggested route...

Important: Once you have your ticket, if pre-booked or if purchasing on the day at the gardens, you will each need ID to get a pass for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the form of a wrist band.

You will also need to sign an indemnity form, as with all Open Garden events, to advise you that you are responsible, and neither Lions nor the garden owners, in the unlikely event that you stumble or fall etc.

Please check the Open Garden Guidelines
